A few years ago I signed up to volunteer at the Horizon’s soup kitchen. I was drawn to serve there because if there had been a free meal line when I was a kid I would have been in it. I knew what it was to be hungry. I also knew what it was like to feel alone, invaluable and discarded. I quickly saw that there was much more to do then just filling the trays. There was hope to be shared.

I knew how to serve a meal but I also wanted to share the hope given to me in Jesus Christ. My children and I still serve monthly in the kitchen but we also look forward to frequetly sharing a meal with those we now call friends so that we might share the same grace that’s been shown to us through forming bonds and relationships with those we serve.

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Jesus as cited in Matthew 7:12
